Supporting People to Live Healthy Lives
Regulation 9 (Person-Centred Care) | Regulation 13 (Safeguarding)
"We support people to manage their health and wellbeing so they can maximise their independence, choice and control, and live healthier lives."
Health Promotion and Preventive Care
The Vesey is committed to supporting patients beyond the immediate clinical consultation. Our clinicians actively apply a Making Every Contact Count (MECC) approach — using every clinical interaction as an opportunity to support patients in making positive changes to their health and wellbeing. This includes brief interventions on lifestyle factors including smoking, alcohol, physical activity, diet, and mental wellbeing, and signposting to community and NHS services where relevant.
Health Assessment and Screening
The Vesey offers a comprehensive range of health assessments and screening services, enabling patients to understand their health baseline, identify risk factors early, and take preventive action. Our health assessment programme covers cardiovascular risk, diabetes, cancer markers, nutritional status, hormonal health, and lifestyle factors. Assessment findings are discussed in a personalised review consultation, and a written health action plan is provided to every patient who undergoes a health assessment.
Signposting and Community Services
Our clinical team maintains up-to-date knowledge of local NHS and community support services available to patients in Sutton Coldfield and the wider West Midlands. Referrals and signposting are made as appropriate to NHS services, social care, mental health support, community wellbeing programmes, and voluntary sector organisations. Clinicians document signposting in patient records alongside clinical decisions.
- NHS Health Check programme: available to eligible patients
- NHS Cancer Screening: patients supported to access bowel, breast, cervical, and prostate screening through NHS pathways
- Mental health signposting: IAPT, NHS Talking Therapies, Birmingham Mental Health Crisis team contacts available to staff
- Weight management: referral pathways to Tier 2/3 NHS weight management services
- Smoking cessation: NHS Stop Smoking service signposting; pharmacotherapy support offered through GP prescribing
Patient Education Materials
Patient information leaflets, condition-specific guidance, and health promotion materials are available throughout the clinic. Digital information is accessible via QR codes in consultation rooms, linking to NICE patient decision aids, NHS information pages, and The Vesey's own clinical content. All patient-facing materials are reviewed annually for accuracy and currency against NICE guidelines.
