What is Astigmatism?

Astigmatism exists when the shape of the cornea (the round clear window at the front of the eye) is irregular.

Imagine the cornea shaped as a rugby ball when it should be the shape of a football. It results in blurred vision at all distances and can be corrected with glasses, contact lenses or laser vision surgery.

What are the treatment options?

In most cases, astigmatism can be managed with adequately with glasses or contact lenses. If you are undergoing refractive or cataract surgery, Mr Patel will discuss the options available to treat your astigmatism.
