A health assessment isn't just a check-up. Done properly, it's a structured measurement of your current cardiovascular, metabolic and biochemical health, benchmarked against age-and-sex-matched norms, with clear recommendations to act on. At The Vesey, your assessment is carried out by our clinical team and concluded with a written results report, reviewed by a GMC-registered doctor.

Our health assessments follow NICE guidance for cardiovascular risk assessment, the QRISK3 framework for 10-year cardiovascular risk, and current best practice for cancer screening and metabolic disease prevention. Reports are reviewed by a GMC-registered doctor.

Who each tier is for

Essential — £99

A blood pressure, body composition and fitness baseline with core bloods (cholesterol and HbA1c).

Advanced — £275

Everything in Essential, upgraded to a full 10-lead ECG, with a broader blood panel and a 30-minute GP appointment.

Executive — £499

Everything in Advanced, plus nutritional and iron blood markers, a 30-minute VO2 max test, and age-relevant screening for those 40 and over.

What happens on the day

Allow time for your full appointment: Essential is a focused, shorter visit; Advanced takes around 60 minutes; Executive takes around 90 minutes. Most patients leave knowing more about their own health than at any previous point in their adult life.

Before
Prepare & complete forms

You don't need to fast before your appointment unless you've been specifically advised to. If you'd like your blood results taken while fasted, you're welcome to attend fasted. Complete a pre-visit health questionnaire we send by email, covering family history, medications and lifestyle.

On arrival
Consultation & baseline

Discussion with your clinician, blood pressure and body composition, an ECG (a single-lead Kardia ECG for Essential, a full 10-lead ECG for Advanced and Executive) and a movement test. Executive also includes a VO2 max test.

During
Bloods drawn

A trained member of our clinical team takes the blood panel. Results are processed and included in your written report.

After
Results & recommendations

You receive a written results report with clear, personalised recommendations and any next steps, sent to you securely once your results are back.

Why a structured health assessment beats "I'll go to the GP if something happens"

Routine health screening for healthy adults is limited on the NHS, and where it is offered it tends to be brief and cover only the basics.

A proper private health assessment changes three things:

  • Picks up silent disease earlier. Hypertension, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease, hypothyroidism, hypercholesterolaemia and atrial fibrillation are all common conditions that develop quietly. Early identification matters: the difference between picking up an HbA1c of 47 (pre-diabetes, reversible with lifestyle) and a year later finding 62 (established type 2 diabetes, needing medication) is enormous.
  • Gives you a benchmark. Your blood pressure, lipid panel, fitness and bloods today, vs the same numbers in 12 months. The trend tells you whether your lifestyle is working.
  • Buys you dedicated time with a clinician. Time to actually talk through everything (stress, sleep, weight, alcohol, mental health, family history) properly and unhurried.

What we commonly find

Our health assessments regularly pick up issues that hadn't been spotted before, including:

  • Previously undiagnosed high blood pressure
  • Raised HbA1c (pre-diabetes or diabetes)
  • Vitamin D deficiency: common in the West Midlands
  • Iron deficiency, particularly in pre-menopausal women
  • Subclinical thyroid problems
  • Heart rhythm changes such as atrial fibrillation picked up on ECG
  • Mental health concerns that warrant further support

Most findings lead to lifestyle conversations and 12-month repeat testing, not medication. Where medication is appropriate, it's discussed openly with risks, benefits and alternatives.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a private health assessment cost?

Three tiers: Essential £99, Advanced £275, Executive £499. Each price is inclusive: consultation, all tests listed, written report and personalised recommendations. No hidden extras.

How long does it take?

Essential is a focused, shorter appointment; Advanced takes around 60 minutes; Executive takes around 90 minutes. All conclude with a written results report and clear recommendations.

Do I need to fast?

You don't need to fast before your appointment unless you've been specifically advised to. If you'd like your blood results taken while fasted, you're welcome to attend fasted. Take routine medications as normal unless told otherwise.

What's the difference between Essential, Advanced and Executive?

Essential is a focused baseline screen with a Health Adviser: blood pressure, body composition, a single-lead Kardia ECG, a movement test, and blood testing covering cholesterol and HbA1c, with a written results report. Advanced includes everything in Essential, replaces the single-lead ECG with a full 10-lead ECG, and adds a 30-minute GP appointment plus a broader blood panel covering full blood count, liver function, kidney function, electrolytes and minerals, blood sugar and cholesterol. Executive includes everything in Advanced and adds a blood panel covering key nutritional and iron markers (including iron, vitamin B12, folate and vitamin D), a 30-minute VO2 max test, and additional screening for those aged 40 and over: PSA and QFIT for men, CA125 and QFIT for women.

Can I have a health assessment on a Sunday?

Yes. We are open 7 days a week, including Sundays, with no weekend surcharge. Live availability is shown when you book online, so you can pick a weekend slot that suits you.

What happens if you find something abnormal?

Any results outside the normal range are discussed with you by a clinician. There's no additional charge for that conversation — only for any further tests or appointments that may be needed.

Will you write to my NHS GP?

Yes with your consent. The full report is shared with your NHS GP so your records stay joined-up, important if any subsequent NHS treatment is needed.

Can I gift a health assessment?

Yes. Health assessment vouchers are popular gifts, particularly for parents, partners and senior employees. Vouchers are valid 12 months from purchase. Contact us on 0121 387 3705 to arrange.

Are health assessments covered by health insurance?

Generally not: health insurance is usually for treatment of confirmed conditions rather than preventive screening. Some policies (particularly senior executive plans through Bupa/Vitality) include an annual health assessment allowance; check with your insurer.

What about corporate health screening for my company?

Yes, we offer dedicated corporate packages from £99 per employee, with on-site delivery options for larger groups. See our corporate health page or call our team.
