Refractive Lens Surgery

What is Refractive Lens Surgery?

This is an alternative to laser eye surgery and there are two types:

  • Phakic Lens Implantation (PIOL)
A lens is inserted into the eye in front of your natural lens. This is generally a preferred option if you are young and your prescription is not suitable for laser eye surgery.
  • Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)
Also known as Clear Lens Exchange (CLE) or Presbyopic Lens Exchange (PRELEX), it’s similar to cataract surgery, where the natural lens is replaced with an artificial lens.

The choice between PIOL and RLE will depend on your age and other factors. Mr Patel will perform a detailed examination and assessment of your eyes to determine which treatment would suit you best.
