Private Colposcopy in Sutton Coldfield
Urgent colposcopy for abnormal cervical smear results, HPV positive tests, or cervical symptoms. Seen within days not weeks. Published price from £650.
What is colposcopy?
Colposcopy is a detailed examination of the cervix using a specially designed microscope (colposcope) that magnifies the cervical tissue and allows the gynaecologist to identify abnormal cells that may require treatment or closer monitoring. It is the standard follow-up investigation when a cervical screening test (smear test) returns an abnormal result or when HPV is detected.
During the examination, acetic acid and iodine solutions are applied to the cervix to highlight abnormal areas. Biopsies may be taken from suspicious areas for laboratory analysis. The procedure is similar to a smear test and takes approximately 15–20 minutes.
An abnormal smear result causes significant anxiety. At The Vesey you can be seen within days rather than the NHS standard 4–8 week wait.

What happens at The Vesey
From your first consultation to discharge — here is what to expect at every stage.
Consultant assessment
Your consultant reviews your smear results, HPV test, and any previous colposcopy findings before proceeding.
Colposcopy examination
The procedure is similar to a smear test. Solutions are applied to the cervix. The colposcope (a camera outside the body) magnifies and illuminates the cervical tissue for detailed examination.
Biopsy (if required)
If abnormal areas are identified, a small biopsy is taken. This causes a brief pinching sensation. Results are available within 1–2 weeks.
Follow-up
Your consultant will discuss findings immediately and advise on next steps — surveillance, treatment, or discharge.
Recovery — what to expect
No recovery time required. Some spotting and discharge for a few days after biopsy is normal. Avoid tampons, swimming and sexual intercourse for a week after biopsy.
Your consultant will provide you with a personalised recovery plan at your assessment appointment, based on your individual procedure, health status, and activity requirements.
