How we assess and investigate
Physiotherapy assessment begins with a detailed subjective history covering onset, mechanism, severity, aggravating and easing factors, and impact on function. Postural analysis, joint range of motion, muscle strength testing, and specific orthopaedic tests (Spurling, SLRT, Hawkins-Kennedy and others) are performed. Functional movement screening is used for sports injury assessment. Where imaging is needed, physiotherapists work closely with our medical consultants to expedite X-ray or MRI.

When to see a specialist
Seek physiotherapy assessment if you have had musculoskeletal pain for more than two weeks that is not improving; if you have sustained a sports injury that is limiting training; if you are following surgery and awaiting NHS physiotherapy with a long wait; if you have recurrent episodes of the same injury without a clear rehabilitation programme; or if back pain is limiting your work or sleep. Private physiotherapy is typically available within days, not months.
