The Vesey runs the most accessible private GP service in the West Midlands. We are open every day of the week — including Sundays — between 8am and 8pm, with no registration, no GP referral and transparent pay-per-visit pricing from £90. Whether you need a same-day acute appointment, a 30-minute health discussion, a sick note, a referral to a consultant, or a longer continuity-of-care relationship through a subscription, your time with the doctor is unhurried and your records are your own.

Our GPs are MRCGP-qualified, GMC-registered and CQC-regulated. We follow NICE and BNF prescribing standards, write to your NHS GP with consent for continuity, and refer privately or back into the NHS as clinically appropriate.

From our consultant

"The GP appointment is meant to be a conversation, not a 10-minute encounter. We've structured this clinic to give 30 minutes to every new patient — long enough to actually listen, examine properly and make a plan you can act on the same day. That's what private GP medicine should look like."

Dr Greg Spencer · GP and Subscription Lead, The Vesey

Why people are turning to private GP services in 2026

NHS general practice in the West Midlands is under serious strain. The Royal College of General Practitioners reports that the average length of an NHS GP consultation has fallen below 10 minutes, while patient demand has risen 16% in three years. Same-day appointments are increasingly rationed and routine reviews — particularly for chronic disease — are running 3–6 weeks behind.

For most people, private GP care isn't about leaving the NHS — it's about getting the conversation you couldn't get there. Around two-thirds of patients we see for the first time tell us they're using The Vesey alongside their NHS GP, typically for: a same-day acute concern, a 30-minute discussion of something complex, a private prescription not currently funded by the NHS, or a private referral that bypasses NHS waiting lists.

You don't have to choose. With your consent we communicate fully with your NHS GP, share investigations, and refer back where appropriate.

What makes a good private GP appointment

A good private appointment isn't just a longer NHS one. It should give you four things:

  • Unhurried time — long enough to talk through symptoms, history, lifestyle and concerns without watching the clock.
  • A proper examination — particularly important for abdominal, cardiac, dermatological and joint complaints, where remote consultations often miss the diagnosis.
  • A clear, written plan — what to do today, what to look out for, and when to come back.
  • Access to onward care — same-day prescription, same-week consultant referral, same-day phlebotomy, ECG or imaging where required.

Every appointment at The Vesey is designed around these four standards. Our GPs work alongside 25+ consultant specialties under the same roof, so escalation is measured in days rather than weeks.

GP subscriptions — for people who use a doctor regularly

If you see your GP four or more times a year, a subscription plan is typically the most cost-effective way to access ongoing care. Three tiers:

  • Essential — £19/month · 6 face-to-face or video GP appointments per year, priority booking, annual health check.
  • Advance — £39/month · 12 appointments, full blood panel, annual ECG, medication review and prescriptions.
  • Executive — £69/month · Unlimited appointments, full annual health assessment, direct specialist referrals included, 24/7 WhatsApp triage.

Subscription patients are seen by their named GP wherever possible, with priority booking ahead of pay-per-visit slots. Full details on the subscriptions page.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a private GP appointment cost?

A 30-minute new-patient consultation at The Vesey is £90. Follow-ups are £70 (15 minutes) or £170 (extended 45-minute review for multiple issues). Video GP appointments are £90. Sunday appointments are £90. All prices include any same-day prescription, referral letter or sick note required during the consultation.

Can I get a same-day appointment?

Yes — same-day appointments are routinely available, including evenings and Sundays. Online booking shows real availability up to 14 days ahead. For urgent same-day requests, calling 0121 387 3727 or messaging on WhatsApp (07498 067215) is usually fastest.

Do I need to register or change GP?

No. We're a pay-per-visit private clinic — no registration, no list, no commitment. You keep your NHS GP and use us alongside, as often or as little as you need. With your consent we'll write to your NHS practice after each appointment so your records stay joined-up.

Will the GP prescribe what I need?

Our GPs prescribe to NICE, MHRA and BNF standards. Same-day private prescriptions are issued electronically or on paper. We don't prescribe controlled drugs (opiates, ADHD stimulants) at a first consultation. Antibiotics are prescribed where clinically indicated, not on request.

Can I get a sick note / fit note from a private GP?

Yes. Med3 (fit note) forms can be issued during your consultation, signed by the GP. These are legally valid for employer and benefits use. There's no extra fee.

Can the GP refer me to a private consultant?

Yes. We refer privately within The Vesey or externally to any consultant of your choice. Internal referrals (e.g. to cardiology, dermatology, paediatrics) often happen on the same day. We also refer back to NHS pathways where appropriate.

Do you do video / online appointments?

Yes. Video appointments are £70 for 15 minutes and are clinically appropriate for around 40% of concerns — particularly medication reviews, mental health, infections with clear photos, results discussions and follow-up. We'll always advise if your concern needs face-to-face assessment.

Do you accept health insurance?

Yes, we are recognised by Bupa, Vitality, AXA Health, Aviva, WPA, Healix and other major UK insurers. Bring your authorisation code. Some policies don't cover GP consultations — call us first if you're unsure.

Are children seen?

Yes. All our GPs see children of any age. For complex paediatric concerns we have consultant paediatricians available the same week.

What about same-day blood tests, ECGs and imaging?

Blood tests are available the same day at our on-site phlebotomy clinic, with results in 6–48 hours depending on the panel. ECGs can be performed during the appointment. Ultrasound and MRI imaging is referred to local accredited providers and typically delivered within 48 hours.
