Private Endometrial Ablation in Sutton Coldfield
Endometrial ablation to treat heavy menstrual bleeding — a minimally invasive alternative to hysterectomy. Day-case procedure. Same-week consultant. Published price.
What is endometrial ablation?
Endometrial ablation is a minimally invasive procedure that destroys (ablates) the lining of the uterus (endometrium) to reduce or stop heavy menstrual bleeding. It is an effective alternative to hysterectomy for women who have completed their family and suffer from heavy periods not responding to medical management.
Modern ablation techniques — including thermal balloon, microwave, and radiofrequency methods — are performed hysteroscopically and take approximately 10–15 minutes under general or local anaesthesia. Around 90% of women experience a significant reduction in menstrual bleeding following the procedure.

Who is endometrial ablation for?
You may be a suitable candidate for endometrial ablation if you are experiencing any of the following:
- Heavy menstrual bleeding significantly affecting quality of life
- Failure of medical management (hormonal treatments, tranexamic acid)
- Completed family — ablation permanently reduces fertility
- Uterine cavity suitable for ablation (confirmed by hysteroscopy)
- No desire for hysterectomy or preference for a less invasive approach

What happens at The Vesey
From your first consultation to discharge — here is what to expect at every stage.
Consultant assessment
Hysteroscopy is performed to assess the uterine cavity and confirm suitability for ablation. Your consultant will discuss the expected outcomes and the small possibility of the procedure not achieving sufficient symptom control.
Pre-operative preparation
Hormonal pre-treatment is sometimes prescribed for 4–6 weeks before ablation to thin the uterine lining and improve outcomes.
Ablation
A thin device is inserted into the uterine cavity through the cervix. Energy (thermal, microwave, or radiofrequency depending on the method) is applied to destroy the endometrial lining. Takes approximately 10–15 minutes.
Recovery
Discharge on the same day. Cramping and discharge for 1–3 weeks is normal.
Recovery — what to expect
Most women return to work within 2–5 days. Some discharge and spotting for 2–4 weeks. The full effect on menstruation is seen after 2–3 cycles.
Your consultant will provide you with a personalised recovery plan at your assessment appointment, based on your individual procedure, health status, and activity requirements.
