Who it's for

When gut symptoms need a wider look

For complex or multisystem digestive symptoms, a broader screen can help a clinician build a fuller picture in one visit. This panel is a sensible first step if you recognise any of these.

Complex gut symptoms

Multisystem or persistent symptoms that warrant a broader screen than coeliac and H. pylori alone.

Possible gut inflammation

Calprotectin can flag inflammation suggestive of inflammatory bowel disease.

Concern about bleeding

QFIT (faecal occult blood) looks for hidden blood in the gut.

Known coeliac or IBD

Monitoring nutritional status when a gut condition is already diagnosed.

Malabsorption

Symptoms suggesting nutrients aren't being absorbed properly.

One thorough visit

You'd rather screen broadly now than test one thing at a time.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions, answered

How is this different from the standard Digestive Health test?
The standard panel screens for coeliac disease and H. pylori. This extended 13-marker panel adds gut inflammation (calprotectin), hidden bleeding (QFIT), a full liver function panel, ferritin and a full blood count — giving a clinician a much broader picture for complex or multisystem symptoms.
Do I need to keep eating gluten before the coeliac part?
Yes. Coeliac blood testing is only reliable while you are still eating gluten regularly. Cutting it out beforehand can produce a falsely negative result, so keep to your normal diet until after the blood draw.
Does this replace a colonoscopy or endoscopy?
No. It's a screening panel that can help identify or rule out common causes and guide next steps. If results or symptoms warrant it, a clinician may recommend onward investigation such as endoscopy or colonoscopy. Every result here is reviewed by a clinician.
How long do results take?
We process your sample promptly and contact you as soon as your clinician-reviewed results are ready — turnaround varies by test, and stool-based markers may take a little longer. Every result is reviewed by a clinician with clear guidance.
Do I need a GP referral?
No referral is needed. You can book directly online or by calling 0121 387 3727. Same-week appointments are available 7 days a week, 8am to 8pm.

Understanding your Digestive Health Extended results

Each result in your Digestive Health Extended is reviewed by a clinician before release. Below is a plain-English guide to the key markers included in this panel.

Key Biomarkers

This panel assesses the key markers relevant to digestive health extended. Each result is reviewed by a clinician who will flag any values outside the expected range for your age and sex.

Reference Ranges

Reference intervals are population-derived and should be interpreted alongside your symptoms and clinical history — a result within range does not always exclude pathology, and a mildly out-of-range result may be clinically insignificant in isolation.

Reference ranges vary between laboratories and are influenced by age, sex, and other individual factors. This information is for educational purposes only and does not replace a clinical consultation. The Vesey reviews every result before it is released to you.
