Who it's for

When something feels off but you can't put your finger on it

Inflammation is the body's response to infection, injury and many chronic conditions — and low-grade inflammation can simmer for years without obvious symptoms. This panel is a sensible step if you recognise any of these.

Unexplained symptoms

Aches, fevers, fatigue or feeling generally unwell with no clear cause.

Recurrent infections

Frequent or lingering infections you'd like investigated further.

Cardiovascular risk check

Low-grade vascular inflammation is linked to heart and circulatory risk.

Monitoring a known condition

Tracking inflammation if you have an inflammatory or autoimmune condition.

Post-viral recovery

Still not right weeks after an infection and want to check for ongoing inflammation.

Reassurance

A thorough check of your inflammatory markers with a clinician's read.

What we check

4 markers across acute and chronic inflammation

Each marker reflects inflammation through a different mechanism and over a different timescale — together they paint a fuller picture than any one alone.

C-reactive protein

CRP rises quickly with acute inflammation and infection. High-sensitivity CRP also flags the low-grade inflammation linked to cardiovascular risk.

CRP & hs-CRP

ESR

The erythrocyte sedimentation rate is a slower, longer-range marker that helps characterise chronic or smouldering inflammation.

1 marker

Ferritin

As well as storing iron, ferritin acts as an acute-phase marker that can rise during inflammatory states.

1 marker

Full blood count

The white cell pattern within an FBC helps point towards infection, allergy or other inflammatory causes.

Blood count

Full Blood Count

Measures CRP (including high-sensitivity CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), ferritin and a full blood count — each reflecting inflammation through different mechanisms and timescales. This is a screening panel and does not replace a clinical diagnosis — every result is reviewed by a clinician.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions, answered

What can an inflammation blood test tell me?
It measures CRP, high-sensitivity CRP, ESR, ferritin and a full blood count. Together these can help a clinician identify or rule out an active infection, a chronic inflammatory condition, or low-grade vascular inflammation. It does not, on its own, diagnose a specific disease — it points to where further investigation may be useful.
Do I need to fast before this test?
No fasting is required for the inflammation panel. You can eat and drink normally beforehand. Our team will confirm any preparation when you book.
How long do results take?
We process your sample promptly and contact you as soon as your clinician-reviewed results are ready — turnaround varies by test. Every result is reviewed by a clinician, who flags anything outside the normal range with a clear explanation and guidance on sensible next steps.
Do I need a GP referral?
No referral is needed. You can book directly online or by calling 0121 387 3727. Same-week appointments are available 7 days a week, 8am to 8pm.
What happens if a result comes back abnormal?
A clinician reviews every panel before it is released. If something is outside the normal range, we explain what it means in plain English and recommend sensible next steps — which may include a GP appointment, a repeat test, or onward referral. This test is a screening investigation and is not a substitute for a clinical diagnosis.
Can I claim this on private health insurance?
Self-funded blood tests are usually paid for directly rather than through insurance, as most insurers require a referral first. If you would like to use insurance, call us on 0121 387 3727 and our team will advise on the best route for your policy.

Understanding your Inflammation results

Each result in your Inflammation is reviewed by a clinician before release. Below is a plain-English guide to the key markers included in this panel.

Key Biomarkers

This panel assesses the key markers relevant to inflammation. Each result is reviewed by a clinician who will flag any values outside the expected range for your age and sex.

Reference Ranges

Reference intervals are population-derived and should be interpreted alongside your symptoms and clinical history — a result within range does not always exclude pathology, and a mildly out-of-range result may be clinically insignificant in isolation.

Reference ranges vary between laboratories and are influenced by age, sex, and other individual factors. This information is for educational purposes only and does not replace a clinical consultation. The Vesey reviews every result before it is released to you.
