Private Epidural Steroid Injection in Sutton Coldfield
Epidural steroid injection for sciatica, disc herniation and spinal stenosis causing leg and back pain. From £1,200. Same-week pain consultant. Published price.
What is epidural steroid injection?
Epidural steroid injection (ESI) delivers corticosteroid medication directly into the epidural space — the area surrounding the spinal cord and nerve roots — to reduce inflammation and relieve pain caused by nerve root compression. It is an established treatment for radicular pain (sciatica), disc herniation, spinal stenosis, and degenerative disc disease causing significant leg or arm pain.
The injection is performed under fluoroscopic (X-ray) or CT guidance with local anaesthetic to ensure precise needle placement. It is typically performed as a day-case procedure and takes approximately 20–30 minutes. Significant pain relief is experienced by the majority of patients, particularly those with acute radicular symptoms.

What happens at The Vesey
From your first consultation to discharge — here is what to expect at every stage.
Consultant assessment
Review of MRI, clinical examination to confirm the level and nature of nerve root involvement, and discussion of the expected benefit and risks of epidural injection.
Pre-procedure preparation
Aspirin and anticoagulants may need to be adjusted. Light meal beforehand.
Epidural injection
Under image guidance, a needle is advanced into the epidural space. Correct position is confirmed with contrast dye. Steroid and local anaesthetic are injected.
Recovery
Monitored for 1–2 hours before discharge. A responsible adult should drive you home.
Recovery — what to expect
Leg weakness or numbness for a few hours from the local anaesthetic is normal. Pain relief begins within 2–7 days. Rest for 24–48 hours after the procedure.
Your consultant will provide you with a personalised recovery plan at your assessment appointment, based on your individual procedure, health status, and activity requirements.
