What's included

A fitness-to-box examination, in plain English

A boxing medical is a clinician-led check that you are medically fit to box, carried out at our Sutton Coldfield clinic. It typically covers a review of your medical history and a general examination of the key areas relevant to combat sport.

Cardiac & general fitness

A general assessment of your heart and overall fitness to take part in combat sport.

Eye / vision check

A check of your vision as part of confirming your fitness to box.

Neurological review

A general neurological assessment appropriate to a fitness-to-box examination.

History & documentation

A review of your medical history and the documentation you need for your licence or fight.

Please note: the exact contents of a boxing medical vary by examination and by what your governing body, sanctioning organisation or promoter requires. When you book, our team confirms exactly what is included and what paperwork you will receive. If you are unsure what your organisation requires, call us on 0121 387 3727.
The Hepatitis B pathway

Adding Hepatitis B — the normal way boxers book it

Many boxing licences require evidence of Hepatitis B vaccination. The standard pathway is the boxing medical (£200) plus the Hepatitis B vaccination add-on (£180) — £380 in total. When you add Hepatitis B, we book your Hepatitis B vaccination as a separate follow-up visit after your medical, with a cooling-off period, so it's all handled in one go.

1

Book your boxing medical

Choose a time for your £200 fitness-to-box examination. Tick the Hepatitis B add-on in the booking to follow the full pathway.

2

Hep B booked as a follow-up

When you add Hepatitis B (£180), we book your Hepatitis B vaccination as a separate follow-up visit after your medical, with a cooling-off period — £380 in total.

3

Complete your course

Your follow-up Hepatitis B appointments are arranged so you can complete the vaccination course for your licence.

In short: book the boxing medical on its own at £200, or add the Hepatitis B vaccination for £380 total and we'll book your vaccination as a follow-up visit after the medical, with a cooling-off period. Not sure which you need? Call 0121 387 3727 and our team will help you match the requirements of your governing body.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions, answered

What is a boxing medical and who is it for?
A boxing medical is a fitness-to-box examination used for licensing and pre-fight medicals. It is for amateur and professional boxers, and people taking part in white-collar or charity boxing, who need a clinician to confirm they are medically fit to compete or train. The examination is carried out at our Sutton Coldfield clinic.
What does the boxing medical examination check?
The examination is a general medical assessment of your fitness to box, including a review of your medical history and a clinical examination. Exact contents vary by examination and by what your governing body or promoter requires — when you book, our team confirms what is included and what documentation you will receive.
Do I need the Hepatitis B vaccination?
Many boxing licences and promoters require evidence of Hepatitis B vaccination. The standard pathway is the boxing medical at £200 plus the Hepatitis B vaccination add-on at £180, giving £380 in total. When you add Hepatitis B, we book your Hepatitis B vaccination as a separate follow-up visit after your medical, with a cooling-off period. If you are unsure what your governing body requires, call us on 0121 387 3727.
How much does a boxing medical cost?
The boxing medical examination is £200. With the Hepatitis B vaccination add-on it is £380 in total (£200 medical plus £180 Hepatitis B). You can pay online when you book or in clinic on the day.
How long is a boxing medical valid for?
Validity is set by your governing body, sanctioning organisation or promoter rather than by the clinic, and can differ between organisations. Please check the requirements that apply to you and book your medical to fit your fight or licensing date. Our team can help if you are unsure.
When will I get my documentation?
You are seen by a clinician at your appointment, and we provide your documentation promptly afterwards. If you have a fight or licensing deadline, let us know when you book so we can help you plan around it.
Do I need a referral to book a boxing medical?
No referral is needed. You can book directly online at thevesey.co.uk/book or by calling 0121 387 3727. We are open 7 days a week, 8am to 8pm, with same-week appointments available.
