Infertility
What is infertility? Infertility is when a couple struggle to conceive. About 84% of couples will conceive naturally within a year if they have regular unprotected sex (every couple of days). Some people fall pregnant quicker than others but if you are still trying after a year then it is advised to get checked over by a Consultant Consultant. What it is
We are not an IVF centre; we provide expert pre-IVF and pre-conception consultation, investigation and onward coordination to the assisted-conception clinic of your choice. Many couples we see do not need IVF; for those who do, we accelerate the workup and protect your relationship with the eventual IVF provider.
Symptoms and signs
- Trying to conceive for 12 months (or 6 months if you are 35 or over) without pregnancy.
- Known cause for concern — irregular periods, previous pelvic surgery, endometriosis, low AMH, abnormal semen analysis.
- Recurrent miscarriage (three or more) — formal assessment indicated.
- Pre-conception counselling for women on chronic medication, with known conditions or following cancer treatment.
- Same-sex couples and single women planning donor conception — pre-treatment assessment and referral.
How we investigate
Initial 60-minute consultation with both partners. Female workup typically includes cycle bloods, AMH, TSH, prolactin, transvaginal pelvic ultrasound and tubal-patency assessment. Male workup includes semen analysis through our accredited partner laboratory. Genetic and recurrent-miscarriage panels where indicated.
Treatment options at The Vesey
- Pre-conception optimisation — weight, alcohol, exercise, folic acid, vitamin D, thyroid and HbA1c review with a clear written plan.
- Ovulation induction — for selected cases of anovulatory infertility, coordinated with your chosen treatment centre.
- Tubal and endometriosis surgery — operative laparoscopy where structural cause is found, performed by our consultant team.
- Referral to an HFEA-licensed IVF centre — with a complete workup, your IVF clinic can start treatment immediately rather than repeating months of investigations.
- Recurrent miscarriage workup — autoimmune, thrombophilia, anatomical, endocrine and karyotype screen.
