How we assess and investigate
The breast surgery consultation includes a full breast examination with a chaperone available. Triple assessment — clinical examination, imaging (ultrasound and/or mammography), and tissue sampling — is the gold standard for any discrete breast lump. Breast ultrasound is arranged at or following the consultation. Mammography is co-ordinated via our radiology partners for women over 35 or where clinically indicated. Fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and core biopsy are performed where required. MRI breast is arranged for high-risk surveillance or where other imaging is inconclusive.
Treatment options at The Vesey
- Excision biopsy and wire-guided excision for suspicious lesions
- Breast cyst aspiration
- Fibroadenoma excision where symptomatic
- Gynaecomastia assessment and management — medical or surgical
- MDT referral for confirmed breast cancer
- Familial breast cancer risk assessment and screening co-ordination (BRCA pathway)
