Medical Weight Management at The Vesey
Obesity and excess weight are medical conditions with significant health consequences — increasing the risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, sleep apnoea, joint disease, and certain cancers. Effective, sustainable weight management usually requires more than willpower alone. The Vesey offers a clinician-led medical weight management programme, including access to licensed GLP-1 receptor agonist medications that represent the most significant advance in obesity treatment in a generation.
All weight loss treatments at The Vesey are prescribed and supervised by our GPs following a thorough medical assessment. We do not prescribe weight loss medications without an in-person or video consultation confirming your eligibility, medical history, and suitability.
GLP-1 Weight Loss Medications
GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonists are injectable medications that reduce appetite, slow gastric emptying, and promote feelings of fullness. Clinical trials have demonstrated weight loss of 10 to 15% of body weight in eligible patients — results that were previously achievable only through bariatric surgery. Available licensed medications include:
Once-weekly injection. Licensed in the UK for weight management in adults with BMI ≥30 (or ≥27 with weight-related condition). Clinical trials showed average weight loss of ~15%.
Daily injection. Licensed for weight management in adults with BMI ≥30 (or ≥27 with comorbidities). An established option with a well-characterised safety profile.
Once-weekly dual GLP-1/GIP agonist. Licensed in the UK for obesity. Clinical trials demonstrate up to 20% body weight reduction — the most effective injectable medication currently available.
Note: Ozempic (semaglutide) is licensed for type 2 diabetes management, not weight loss. Wegovy contains the same active ingredient (semaglutide) and is the weight-loss licensed formulation. Our GPs prescribe the appropriate licensed medication based on your medical assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Wegovy or Ozempic available at The Vesey?
The Vesey can assess your suitability for licensed GLP-1 weight loss medications including Wegovy (semaglutide), Saxenda (liraglutide), and Mounjaro (tirzepatide). These are prescribed following a GP assessment confirming eligibility. Ozempic contains the same active ingredient as Wegovy but is licensed for type 2 diabetes — Wegovy is the correct formulation for weight management.
Who is eligible for GLP-1 weight loss injections?
Wegovy and Mounjaro are licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or BMI 27 or above with at least one weight-related health condition (e.g. type 2 diabetes, hypertension, or dyslipidaemia). Eligibility is confirmed at your GP consultation. Certain medical conditions and medications may affect eligibility — your GP will review these at your appointment.
What are the side effects of weight loss injections?
The most common side effects of GLP-1 medications are gastrointestinal — nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea — and are typically most pronounced in the first few weeks as the dose is increased gradually. Most patients find these settle within 4 to 8 weeks. Our GPs provide full guidance on managing side effects and can adjust dosing schedules where needed.
