Who it's for

Who this male screen is for

This enhanced male screen adds folate and B12 to a comprehensive health check, including PSA. It's a sensible step if you recognise any of these — and is always interpreted by a clinician.

Vegetarian or vegan

Men at elevated risk of B12 deficiency from a plant-based diet.

On certain medications

Men taking metformin or proton pump inhibitors, which can deplete B12.

Symptoms of deficiency

Fatigue, tingling or cognitive symptoms where B12 status is worth checking.

A thorough male check

You want a comprehensive screen including thyroid, male hormones and PSA in one visit.

Cardiovascular awareness

B12 and folate are central to homocysteine metabolism, an independent cardiovascular risk factor.

Cognitive or neurological symptoms

Brain fog or tingling where untreated B12 deficiency can cause lasting harm.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions, answered

How is this different from the standard male screen?
This panel adds serum folate and vitamin B12 to the comprehensive male standard screen plus, which also includes total PSA. B12 is commonly low in vegetarians, vegans and people on metformin or proton pump inhibitors, and both nutrients are central to homocysteine metabolism.
Do I need to fast before this test?
Because the panel includes glucose, HbA1c and a lipid profile, we may ask you to avoid eating for a few hours beforehand if your appointment is in the morning. Our team will confirm any preparation when you book.
How long do results take?
We process your sample promptly and contact you as soon as your clinician-reviewed results are ready — turnaround varies by test. Every result is reviewed by a clinician.
Do I need a GP referral?
No referral is needed. You can book directly online or by calling 0121 387 3727. Same-week appointments are available 7 days a week, 8am to 8pm.
What happens if a result comes back abnormal?
A clinician reviews every panel before it is released. If something is outside the normal range — including PSA — we explain what it means in plain English and recommend sensible next steps. This test is a screening investigation and is not a substitute for a clinical diagnosis.
Can I claim this on private health insurance?
Self-funded blood tests are usually paid for directly rather than through insurance, as most insurers require a referral first. Call us on 0121 387 3727 and our team will advise.

Understanding your Standard Screen Plus Folic Acid Vitamin B12 Male results

Each result in your Standard Screen Plus Folic Acid Vitamin B12 Male is reviewed by a clinician before release. Below is a plain-English guide to the key markers included in this panel.

Key Biomarkers

This panel assesses the key markers relevant to standard screen plus folic acid vitamin b12 male. Each result is reviewed by a clinician who will flag any values outside the expected range for your age and sex.

Reference Ranges

Reference intervals are population-derived and should be interpreted alongside your symptoms and clinical history — a result within range does not always exclude pathology, and a mildly out-of-range result may be clinically insignificant in isolation.

Reference ranges vary between laboratories and are influenced by age, sex, and other individual factors. This information is for educational purposes only and does not replace a clinical consultation. The Vesey reviews every result before it is released to you.
