Private Adult Circumcision in Sutton Coldfield
Removal of the foreskin for adult men, carried out by a consultant urologist under local anaesthetic, with dissolvable stitches.
What is adult circumcision?
Circumcision is a minor operation to remove the foreskin, the fold of skin that covers the head of the penis. At The Vesey it is carried out for adult men by a consultant urologist, under local anaesthetic, so you stay awake but feel no pain in the area.
The wound is closed with dissolvable stitches, so they do not need to be removed. Your consultant will see you first to examine you, talk through other treatments that may help, and agree whether an operation is the right choice.
Who is adult circumcision for?
Adult men may be referred or choose to see a consultant about circumcision when they have:
- A tight foreskin that will not pull back (phimosis), or that becomes stuck behind the head of the penis
- Repeated infection or inflammation of the foreskin or the head of the penis
- Splitting, scarring or pain of the foreskin, including during sex
- A skin condition of the foreskin that has not settled with treatment
- A personal, cultural or religious wish to be circumcised, after discussion with the consultant

What happens at The Vesey
From your first consultation to your follow-up, here is what to expect.
Consultant assessment
A consultation with a consultant urologist, from £260. Your consultant examines you, explains the options and the risks, and confirms whether circumcision is suitable.
Consent and preparation
If you go ahead, you will be given written information and asked to sign a consent form. You will be told how to prepare and whether you need someone to take you home.
The procedure
Carried out under local anaesthetic. The foreskin is removed and the skin is closed with dissolvable stitches, then covered with a dressing.
Going home and follow-up
You go home the same day with written aftercare advice and a contact number. A follow-up is arranged if your consultant recommends one.
Recovery: what to expect
Most men go home the same day. Some swelling, bruising and soreness is normal for the first days; your consultant will advise on pain relief. The stitches dissolve on their own over the following weeks. You will be told how to care for the wound, when to return to work and exercise, and when it is safe to have sex again, which is usually several weeks afterwards. Contact us or seek medical help if you have heavy bleeding, increasing pain, a high temperature or difficulty passing urine.
Your consultant will give you a personalised recovery plan at your assessment appointment, based on your procedure, your health and what you need to get back to.
