Does a private test replace my NHS cervical screening?

No. Keep attending your NHS cervical screening when invited. A private test can be useful between invitations or if you prefer a private appointment, and a GP reviews every result.

HPV and cervical screening FAQs

What is the difference between the two tests?

The HPV DNA test looks for high-risk types of human papillomavirus. Cervical cytology also looks at the cells from the cervix.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book online without a referral.

Who analyses and reviews my results?

Samples are analysed by a UKAS-accredited laboratory. A GP at The Vesey reviews any result outside the normal range and can arrange a follow-up appointment to discuss it.

Can I have the test away from Sutton Coldfield?

Yes, for most tests. Book a free call and a Health Advisor arranges your sample at a partner clinic near you, anywhere in the UK and Ireland. Your results come back to The Vesey.
