Paediatric blood tests, taken by a consultant paediatrician.
Dr Bala Subramaniam takes every child’s blood sample himself, in a dedicated Wednesday evening clinic. Your child can have any test in our full range, at exactly the same price as the adult test.
Book your child’s blood test
Appointments run on Wednesday evenings only, 6pm to 8pm. Pick a time and it is booked straight into Dr Subramaniam’s clinic.
- Choose a Wednesday time. Online booking closes 24 hours before each slot. For anything sooner, call us.
- Enter your child’s details as the patient (name, date of birth, sex) and your own email and phone number so we can reach you.
- Tell us which test or tests in the reason box. If a GP or hospital has asked for tests, list them and bring the request form.
Pay at the clinic. No payment is taken online. Each test costs the same as it does for adults, and you pay for the tests your child has on the day.
Not sure which test your child needs? Book a consultation with Dr Subramaniam first, and he will recommend only the tests that answer the question.

Why a consultant paediatrician takes the sample
Taking blood from a baby or a nervous child is a different skill from taking it from an adult. Small veins, a wriggling arm and a worried parent all need someone who does this every week.
Babies and young children have small, hard-to-find veins. A paediatrician is trained to take blood from them, which means fewer attempts.
Wednesday evenings are set aside for children, so your appointment is not squeezed between adult blood draws, and you can come after school or work.
The person who takes the sample is a children’s doctor. If a result needs explaining, you can book a follow-up with the same consultant.
Our full range of tests, at the same prices
Every blood test we offer adults is available for children. The price is identical: no paediatric surcharge and no fee for the consultant taking the sample. These are the tests parents ask about most often.

Need something else? Browse every blood test or build your own from individual markers, then name it when you book. A blood test is a screening tool, not a diagnosis.
Preparing your child
Tell your child they will feel a quick scratch and it will be over soon. Short, calm explanations work better than long ones.
A well-hydrated child has easier veins. Give water through the day unless you have been told the test needs fasting.
Most tests need no fasting. A few, such as glucose and cholesterol, do. Check the test’s page or ask us when you book.
A favourite toy, a tablet or a snack for afterwards helps. Dress them in a short-sleeved or loose top.
